Welcome to the Department of English Language and Literature at Celal Bayar University-Manisa. Founded in 1997 by Prof. Dr. Yüksel USLU, the department now offers undergraduate courses on Medieval Literature, Chaucer, Shakespeare, and the Novel to Romanticism, English and Contemporary Drama, Gothic Fiction, English Poetry, Criticism, and Literary Theory, just to name a few. Mission
To study and analyze the corpus of English language and literature via scientific methods; to illuminate parts of the area which are not previously studied and analyzed.
To analyze and comment on the texts in English in the light of historical, social, economic, political, and ideological developments of their era.
To apply basic concepts of Cultural History and Cultural Studies to literary texts; to analyze relationships between language-culture and literature-culture.
To educate students who can think, criticize, analyze and comment; who have a critical and interdisciplinary view, and advanced written and oral language skills.
Vision
To be a reliable and respectable department among the departments of English Language and Literature on the national and international academic platform. To this end, to follow the developments that will increase the quality of education and participate in scholarly activities.
To have equipped research assistants in the department who will sustain and develop the quality and the success of the department, and to ensure that they qualify as academics who have scientific ethics with social and scientific responsibilities.
